Bondi Breakfast Wars

Is it me, or do people in Bondi go out for breakfast more than they do dinner?! After wine bars, there seems to now be a serious war amongst breakfast cafes in the bubble.

Similar to what you’d do on a Friday night in Darlinghurst roaming the streets between your Shady Pines, Pocket bar and other Commons, you need to plan you breakkie carefully… Or you’ll end up leaving your name at the door and receive a “there are 6 groups before you, did you want to grab a coffee while you wait?” (actually happened a couple weeks ago at the newly opened Bondi Picnic..). Are you serious? I just want poached eggs on toast! A dangerous slope I tell you, next thing you know I’ll be making my own breakfast at home. And that would be the equivalent of staying in on a New years Eve.

On the plus side, this also means that we’re now spoiled for choice. Take the top of Glenayr for example, amongst veteran places you’ll now find the fresh looking Bondi Picnic (picture above – I haven’t managed to pass the waiting list so far!), the relaxed family owned Favourite Child (photo below – chat to the owner and get a Museli, you’ll regret neither) and the hipster Deli Bottega. Make your way towards Curlewis and before you hit Greens (always a winner), Speakeasy and the  Shop & Wine Bar, you’ll find the new cool looking Hacienda (keen to try it). And if you keep going you’ll end up at the  Organic Bakery & one of my all time fave – Jeds.

So think strategically about breakfast kids – ETA, number in your squad, target and back up plan. This is a serious matter – one for all, and all for their eggs.
